What kind of legacy are we leaving?
I was talking to Mary’s husband tonight. You might remember that Mary died of a massive stroke a couple of years ago at only 47 years old, leaving her husband and 3 kids behind.
To add to the grief, last winter he lost his job and hasn’t been able to even get an interview. Its a common problem here. I’m surrounded by professionals who don’t even get a bite on their resumes.
So Mary died early, with no life insurance. He lost his job, and now they are in real danger of losing their home.
A little bit of stress, would you say?
His sister even said he’s aged 10 years.
Now add to that – he smokes and they don’t eat right.
He tells me he can cook. I don’t know about that. After Mary died, his father said he couldn’t even make himself a sandwich. Everytime I talk to him around dinner time, he’s making hamburger helper.
Tonight I said, “what about a salad?”
He said, “There’s some sort of vegetables in it. That works.”
I want to reach out and strangle people sometimes. But I know that like most people, he won’t change until he has a life threatening episode.
How about you?
How are you feeling today?
Are you healthy, full of energy, and living life?
If not, how is that affecting your family?
How would it affect your family if you were to get seriously ill, or god-forbid, died?
Will you be able to bear looking down from heaven to see your family suffering?
Especially when you know it didn’t have to be that way? You could have changed it.
They’re even talking about putting children on cholesterol medications.
They’re saying our children are expected to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.
Look at your children right now. Is this the kind of legacy we want to leave?
