A broken cinder block being used as a weight i...

Are you one of the hundreds of people who found out how out of shape they are last weekend?

Me too. A lot of us kind of over did it last weekend. I decided to try to rebuild a cinder block garden wall – after I had reset the concrete garden edgers. Outta my mind I tell you! But I’m not alone. A lot of people were complaining about sore shoulders, arms, legs, and backs.

You know I sure don’t have a lot of time for working out, but I’ve managed to keep this old body in pretty good shape. I’m known for being pretty darned strong. I put a lot of guys to shame.

Here’s my prescription –

Breathing and Posture exercises whenever you think of it. They can be done anywhere, any time.

Stretching – Keeping your muscles limber is a big anti-aging secret. Recent research even shows a connection between muscle flexibility and artery flexibility.

Walking for lower body, and stress relief. Strive for 20-30 minutes a day. It takes about 20 minutes at a medium pace to walk a mile. Dancing, vacuuming, and house cleaning are all workouts too ;-)

Resistance exercise for upper body 3 times a week. Do not do these everyday. You can get the bands at WalMart.

That’s really all I do. Don’t discount the effectiveness of these exercises just because they’re so simple. Put your disbelief aside and try them for a few weeks.

If you’re so moved and you want to be super toned, you can try these exercises.

I think I just saved you the cost of a gym membership :)

Protecting yourself from radioactive fallout

Simulation of many identical atoms undergoing ...

Boy, this has turned out to be a very complicated topic.  I’ve read a lot of medical gobbly gook this week!

First – potassium iodide should only be taken if you are exposed to nuclear radiation. It is dangerous and must be used carefully. There have already been overdose incidents.

Here’s the cliff notes version of what I’ve discovered this week –

Iodine aids your thyroid in producing hormones.

Too little, or too much can be dangerous.

Most people are deficient.

With all the iodized salt people eat, how can people be deficient?

It turns out that bromide and fluoride deplete iodine. Bromide is found in bleached foods – white flour and white rice.

In America, we don’t eat as many iodine rich foods as they do in Japan, like seaweed, kelp, seafood, and shellfish.

But before you run out to buy these things, there’s another problem. Like all seafood, these foods are contaminated. Now add to that the radiation that may be affecting these foods if they come from the many Japanese farms. Much of the chlorella and spirulina also come from Japanese farms.

But it gets worse.

The radioactive process-

Radioactive particles attach to minerals such as iodine, making what is called an impostor If your body is deficient in a particular mineral, it will readily absorb the radioactive impostor

The really scary part is, this applies to all trace minerals. And there’s a lot of those.

As it stands right now, most of us are not in grave danger from the nuclear fallout, but there has been disturbing developments today that could severely affect any food coming from the west coast. High radioactive readings have been found 18 miles out from the Japanese coast. And the whole disaster shines the spotlight on another very real problem -

If you are eating a diet that consists mostly of package and processed foods, you are nutritionally deficient. I guarantee it. Even if you take supplements. Remember, supplements are meant to supplement a healthy diet – not replace it.

When you consider that there are many nuclear plants in the U.S., that probably are maintained about as well as our telephone and utility systems, we have real reason to be concerned.

So, what should you do?

Get Healthy!

First, get off the packaged and processed stuff and start eating real foods with real nutrients in them. Check the food indexes for more information.

Increasing your minerals -

Change to organic sea salt, or some Himalayan salt I’ve been reading about. These salts are a great source of iodine and other trace minerals.

Another ‘food’ product that is high in minerals is whole whey protein powder. There was something called Sweet Whey that one of the Doctors swears by as being the best form. This whey also contains all of the things necessary for your body to make glutathione, which helps your body get rid of toxins. But you only want the kind that comes from organically grass fed raw milk.

Increase your antioxidants big time – mostly through food with some added protection from supplements.

If ever there was a time to get serious about getting healthy, I think this is it, don’t you?

Getting healthy is not as horrible as you think -

Did you know that Watermelon is an excellent source of vitamin C,
vitamin A, the B vitamins, lycopene, thiamine, potassium and magnesium. But go for the real thing. Not the GMO seedless stuff. In case you’re wondering, they didn’t make it seedless for you. They made it seedless so you couldn’t plant your own.

Stay informed, and eat well. There’s tons of good food ideas inside the members area…

How the FDA is protecting you – NOT

In this video, Jeff Smith – Author of Seeds of Destruction, talks about the infamous revolving door between the FDA and Monsanto and other disturbing issues.

You might wonder why I picked the 3rd video in the series. See, people will watch the first one. Some will watch the second one. But life is busy and people don’t find the time to go back and watch the rest. So not many people ever actually see or hear about the information in the latter parts of the series. As you’re about to find out – that is not a good thing.

Watch the video here  (sorry, the embed code for these videos doesn’t work)

If you are so moved, you can now watch the rest of the series -

Skip right to the end –

Part 1 of 6 -

You may also know that since the filming of these videos – GMO crops have grown to include sugar beets and recently alphalfa.

I picked up a box of Nature’s Valley Bars and read the label. Its full of sugars and GMOs. Not exactly the cozy ingredients you would expect from a line with that name is it? Homemade oatmeal cookies would be a much healthier alternative.

At least we’re all resistant to a Round-Up attack.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

One of the things that I love about the holidays is that most people make real food. Oh sure, the choices have more fat than we should eat on a regular basis, but it’s better for you than what most people eat the rest of the year! Just eat reasonably.

Enjoy the great food, great friends and family. Stay warm. Drive Safe. Don’t drink and drive. And remember the real reason for the season.

Can you really cure Cancer with this?

I just read an article that I wanted to share with you.

What do other people see?

I was at a bar watching the Bears-Packers game last night. There was a girl there who has been talking about how she wants to lose weight for as long as I’ve known her.

After she got there, she said, “Carole, you would be proud of me. I had broccoli today!”

OK, yes, I’m proud of you.

I had walked away from the table and was gone for a while. When I came back, she was eating a sampler platter – by herself. Didn’t even offer me an onion ring!

The platter had 4 wings, 4 cheese sticks, nachos, and onion rings. She ate every last bt of it. I can’t even imagine how many calories she consumed.

What you would think if you witnessed this?

Just some food for thought…..

Ladies annual cost of being obese is $4,879

From sick days, to lower wages, to more gas in your car – this study says it cost a woman an extra $4879 dollars a year.
