Finally we had a beautiful day!

I got to work on my gardens and break a good sweat. Did you know that sweating helps remove toxins from your body? It felt great. Well, until it started to feel gross, but a quick shower took care of that!

Then it was off to my neighbor’s house for dinner. She was all apologietic  saying, “we’re just having chicken on the grill, potato salad, corn on the cob, watermelon and canteloupe.” Heck, that’s my kind of dinner!

Then we went for a boat ride.

Now its time to contemplate the work week ahead – and moe severe storms in the forecast for tomorrow, but these little rejuvination breaks really help, don’t they?

You don’t have to wait for  a holiday you know. You can have a mini rejuvination break every night. Fresh fruits and vegetables require no cooking. Chicken breasts, fish, and steak all cook quickly. Have a leisurely dinner, and on nice evenings - talk a walk. If you have kids, take a walk to the park. They can play, you can rest.

Good food, fresh air, exercise, and a good night’s sleep does a body good!

Some People Don’t Deserve to be Skinny

I had a comment show up today on a post I had written about how skinny people eat a lot that I found interesting. Liz wrote -

  1. “Of course, there are lots of thin people that eat a lot of food and do not deserve to be skinny. They just won the genetic lottery. I see plenty of thin people in my office who chow down on cheeseburgers while less thin co-workers munch on almonds and fat-free yogurt. What can I say? Life’s not fair.”

You know, it sure seems like that sometimes, doesn’t it? It used to drive me nuts trying to figure out why the girl who swore to me that she eats lots of salad, and doesn’t seem to eat much was almost 300 pounds, and how skinny girls who seem to eat anything they want and not gain weight. It didn’t make sense.

I found that there is always a lot that you don’t see. Like the heavy girls who ate salad all day in front of you go home and gorge themselves in front of the TV all night. Or how the skinny girl is out shopping, or working out, and doesn’t watch much TV.

Make it a point to really observe and you’ll find the deep dark secrets.

I had a girlfriend who was always a size 14 – 18. It did seem like that was her lot in life. Suddenly she dropped to a size 2 and stayed there. All it takes is a decision.

I have another friend going through the process now. She is finally down to where she can shop in regular stores. She’s been big and sick ever since she quit smoking probably close to 20 years ago now. Of curse, the blame went to quitting smoking, and genes, and aging. But she’s turning it around. Which of course goes to show that all those excuses were just excuses.

I have another friend that I can tell when they’re not eating so well. Her daughter is a dead give away. When her daughter is throwing tantrums, acting out, and being impossible – I know.

But when they’re eating well, the little girl is vivacious and charming.

It’s gotten a lot harder to pull the wool over my eyes. For my students, there is an opportunity for personal coaching when they can’t seem to lose the weight. I try to work with them to find the area where they might be lying to themselves. I know now that it is mathmatical. If you do things a certain way, you will get certain results. Period. In every case, there is something hidden from plain view that needs to be brought out into the light. Its just a matter of uncovering it.

For a lot of people, its the mindless eating in front of the TV. But I have found that there are just as many who have a social life that involves a lot of eating out and drinking. Many have professed to a love of bread. For others, its a love of things white and creamy; potatoes, sour cream, cream cheese, mayo, and ranch dressing.

Oddly enough, I haven’t found too many who have a sweet tooth and indulge in a lot of desserts. It seems that the ones with the sweet tooth are the skinny girls. I still can’t figure that one out!

Make Mom a Great Dinner in 20 Minutes

You seriously can make Mom a great dinner in about 20 minutes.

Steak

Tossed salad

Baked potato

Fresh green bean with toasted almonds

Glass of wine

Its fast, not terribly expensive, and really good!

A store by me has filets on sale for $4 for a 6 oz. steak (which is a proper serving size). I bought butt steaks for us.

If you’re using a less expensive cut of steak, marinate it overnight.

See, its not hard ;-)

Making breakfast too? Boy, you really are sweet! How about some strawberry-banana french toast? Yum!

Things should be heating up by now, but here in the midwest its not happening :( Today will be a high of 47, and a chance of rain. Pretty much the same forecast we’ve had for the last 6 weeks.

The good news is we have another food holiday!

We have a love affair with Mexican food. Its tasty and warm It wakes up the taste buds. And its just plain fun.

Of course new research shows that hot peppers can ease pain, and can help you turn up the heat on your metabolism.
